Acupuncture Styles

Frederick practises across four distinct traditions of acupuncture, drawing on whichever approach best suits each client’s condition and constitution. This breadth of training is what sets BodyWise Solutions apart.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture

The most widely recognised form of acupuncture, rooted in over 2,000 years of classical Chinese medicine. Fred applies TCM diagnosis, including tongue and pulse assessment, to identify and address patterns of imbalance at their source. Effective across a broad range of internal, emotional, and musculoskeletal conditions.

Japanese Acupuncture

Japanese styles tend to use finer needles with more delicate insertion technique, placing a strong emphasis on palpation and energetic sensitivity. The approach is precise and gentle, making it particularly well suited to clients who are sensitive or new to acupuncture. Fred draws on the Meridian Therapy tradition and related lineages.

Taiwanese Acupuncture

Taiwanese styles blend classical Chinese theory with highly practical, often system-based protocols. Fred incorporates these approaches for specific musculoskeletal presentations and pain conditions, where targeted, structured treatment plans consistently produce strong results.

Contemporary & Integrated

Contemporary acupuncture integrates evidence-informed clinical reasoning with traditional frameworks. This includes trigger-point-based needling, segmental approaches informed by modern anatomy and neuroscience, and integration with electro-acupuncture or dry needling where appropriate. Fred adapts his approach to what the evidence and the client’s presentation call for.

Athletes & Sports Performance

Acupuncture is used in sports medicine contexts for recovery, musculoskeletal complaints, and ongoing physical maintenance. Fred has worked with athletes, active Cairns locals, and regular gym-goers for years across a wide range of presentations.

BodyWise Solutions regularly works with runners, cyclists, swimmers, CrossFit athletes, team sport players, triathletes, and people who train hard as part of their lifestyle. Fred also treats the full breadth of musculoskeletal complaints that come from physical activity and occupational strain.

Recovery Support

Acupuncture is commonly used to support recovery after training, competition, or injury. It is used to promote local circulation and address pain signalling. Many athletes use it as part of their post-training care routine.

Musculoskeletal Maintenance

Regular acupuncture is used to work with myofascial tension, joint mobility, and accumulated muscle tightness from training. Many athletes use it as part of their ongoing maintenance routine alongside other modalities.

Ongoing Performance Care

Many of BodyWise Solutions’ regular clients are athletes and active individuals who use acupuncture as part of their ongoing routine. Fred works with muscle function, nervous system load from heavy training, and general physical maintenance.

Musculoskeletal Complaints

Fred works with a wide range of sports-related musculoskeletal conditions, including plantar fasciitis, ITB syndrome, rotator cuff presentations, tennis & golfer’s elbow, hamstring issues, calf conditions, shin splints, knee pain, and lower back complaints.
