Common Questions

We’ve answered some of the most common questions to help you feel comfortable and confident before your visit.

Treatments & Conditions

What conditions do you treat?

We work with a wide range of musculoskeletal and internal conditions. Common presentations include back pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, plantar fasciitis, headaches, knee and ankle pain, anxiety, digestive issues, sinus problems, and women’s health. We also see a lot of sports injuries, overuse conditions, and people who simply need stress relief and a reset. If you’re not sure whether we can help, call us and describe what’s going on.

Do you work with chronic pain and long-term conditions?

Yes. A large part of our work is with people who have been dealing with pain for months or years. Chronic conditions take consistent work, and we are set up for that. Many of our clients have been coming to us weekly or fortnightly for years. Long-standing conditions that haven’t responded to other treatments often respond very well to a consistent acupuncture or massage programme.

Do you treat anxiety or stress-related issues?

Yes. We regularly work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, and stress-related physical symptoms. Acupuncture is used for nervous system regulation and is commonly applied for people dealing with ongoing stress and mental fatigue. Massage and bodywork also work with the physical component of stress and tension.

Can you help with sports injuries and athletic recovery?

Absolutely. Fred works with athletes and active individuals regularly. Acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, and dry needling are all particularly effective for sports injuries, overuse conditions, and muscle recovery. Many of our regular clients are training hard and use BodyWise Solutions as part of their ongoing maintenance routine. See Fred’s page for more detail on what we do for athletes specifically.

Can I receive acupuncture and massage in the same visit?

Yes. Many clients benefit from a combination of both within the same visit or across sequential sessions. Fred and Lynne work from the same clinic, so it’s straightforward to arrange. A common approach is acupuncture first to address deeper patterns and nervous system regulation, followed by hands-on massage work from Lynne. Just let us know what you’re looking for when you book.

Booking & Appointments

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking ahead to secure your time. You can book online through Fred’s or Lynne’s booking page, or call or text directly. Same-day appointments are sometimes available depending on the schedule. It’s always worth reaching out if you need to come in that day.

How do I book an appointment?

The easiest way is to book online. Fred and Lynne each have their own booking page where you can select your service and choose a time. You can also call or text Fred on 0416 704 891 for acupuncture, or Lynne on 0416 578 432 for massage and bodywork. You can also send a message via the contact form and we will get back to you promptly.

When are you open?

We are open Monday and Wednesday through Sunday, 4pm to 9:30pm. We are closed on Tuesdays. We are located at 56-60 Abbott St, Cairns City QLD 4870, in the heart of Cairns CBD.

Are you suitable for tourists visiting Cairns?

Yes. We see tourists and visitors regularly, including people passing through Cairns who need relief from travel-related issues like neck and back stiffness, headaches, stress, jet lag, and general fatigue. We are located at 56-60 Abbott St in Cairns CBD, easy to reach from the Esplanade and most CBD accommodation. We will fit you in where we can, so don’t hesitate to call even if you’re only in Cairns for a short stay.

Sessions & What to Expect

What should I expect in a session?

Your first session starts with a brief conversation about what’s been happening: what you’re experiencing, how long it has been going on, and any relevant history. From there, Frederick or Lynne will assess the area and begin treatment. Most people feel a noticeable difference during or straight after the session. We keep things straightforward and focused on results.

How long are sessions?

Sessions typically run 60 to 90 minutes depending on what is needed. Your first visit may run slightly longer as we take time to understand your situation properly. We do not rush sessions. The focus is on doing the work properly, not moving through a time slot.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, loose clothing. Depending on the treatment area you may need to partially undress. For example, shoulder or back treatment often requires removing or adjusting your top. We keep you covered and comfortable throughout. If you have any concerns about this, just mention it when you book and we can advise accordingly.

Which service is right for me?

If you have a specific pain complaint or injury, acupuncture or deep tissue massage is usually the right starting point. If you’re dealing with stress, burnout, or a more systemic condition, acupuncture often produces the strongest results. If you carry chronic muscle tension, Lynne’s therapeutic massage is typically ideal. If you’re unsure, call us. Describe what you’re experiencing and we’ll point you in the right direction. Many clients also benefit from a combination of both acupuncture and massage.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Not in the way most people expect. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, nothing like injection needles or the image most people have. You may feel a brief sensation on insertion, often described as a dull ache, heaviness, or a warmth at the needle site. This sensation, called De Qi in Chinese medicine, is generally regarded as a sign of a good acupuncture response. Most clients find sessions deeply relaxing once needles are in place.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies considerably depending on the nature and duration of your condition. Acute or recent conditions often respond within two to four sessions. Chronic or long-standing conditions typically require a more sustained course of treatment. Many of our clients choose to continue with regular maintenance sessions, monthly or fortnightly, once their main complaint is resolved. We will give you an honest assessment of what to expect for your specific situation.
